Lowe's donates computers to New York school district
May 13, 2011

Shop class gets technology upgradeTechnology education will empower students to thrive in a variety of industries, and, according to Syracuse.com, home improvement retailer Lowe's is well aware of this fact. Recently, the company donated $40,000 worth of computers and shop class tools to the Cayuga County school district in upstate New York.

"This will revamp our entire technology department," Phillip Grome, Cuyuga's district business manager, told the new source. "Our computers are nearing the end of their life cycle so this couldn’t come at a better time."

With the grant money, the school district will also buy new woodworking tools, as their current supplies are now 40 years old, stated the news source.

It is likely that the new craftsman tools will be paired with technology. An innovative shop class teacher seeking to construct a better lesson plan may consider purchasing an architectural design program, a safer buzz-saw or a classroom projector.

Furthermore, the news source pointed out that this is not the first time Lowe's has been an education benefactor for upstate New York. In 2010, it gave the city of Auburn, New York, $100,000 for technology purchases.
