Technology training for Kansas teachers
May 12, 2011

Teachers learn to use new technologyTechnological proficiency sometimes requires hours of training, and the costs of these educational programs can be quite steep.

According to Ark City, middle school teachers in Arkansas City, Kansas, will be able to use grant money to pay for instructional seminars. Recently, the city's school board received a $50,000 grant that will pick up the tab for teachers looking to enroll in technology education programs.

The funding will pay for 25 to 40 hours of training for each teacher, reports the news source. Furthermore, the education grants are part of a larger statewide initiative called the Project Acceleration of Learning Through Technology.

After receiving the technology training, Arkansas City's middle and high school teachers may be able to use technology in the classroom to engage their students more effectively. The training may make teachers more confident when using an e-reader, a graphic calculator program or a DLP projector.

The $50,000 grant is just the beginning, according to the media outlet. To make sure their educational processes keep pace with new technologies, the Arkansas City school district is looking to secure additional funds.
