Sweet Briar College was recently awarded a $200,000 grant to train more than 100 teachers in Virginia, reported the News Advance.
Fourth- and fifth-grade teachers will be trained in science, math and technology, according to the news source. The college's initiative will reach out to schools, including the Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell county schools.
Furthermore, the college received an additional $20,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation that will provide technology integration training for grade school and secondary education teachers, stated the media organization.
Technology in the classroom can be used to promote learning in all grade levels. Even a kindergarten teacher can implement technology into the classroom to influence student learning, and those looking to do so may consider investing in an interactive whiteboard, an early reading program or a classroom projector.
According to the News Advance, the grants mark the beginning of a two-year pilot program that will implement technology in the classroom for several Virginia schools.
One of the educational technology instruments featured by the program is the iPad, which, according to RSWFlorida, is also being used in Collier County schools in Florida.
