Minneapolis schoolchildren ecstatic about $13 million dollar grants
Four major corporations in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota recently donated $13 million to Minneapolis school districts, reported the Star Tribune.

Target, Cargill, General Mills and Medtronic have all joined forces to help schools in need expand their educational resources. According to the news source, Target has pledged more than $6 million to help Minneaoplois teachers implement early education reading initiatives. Additionally, the funds from the other three companies will be used to train and recruit highly qualified teachers for employment in local schools.

There are several ways a teacher can utilize technology in early reading initiatives. A teacher looking to improve reading proficiency among grade school students may consider an interactive whiteboard, an e-reader or a classroom projector.

Executives with each company agree that, in order to solve the problems facing education today, a collaborative effort is needed.

"The issues facing our educational system are too large and complex for any single entity to solve alone,'' said Mark Murphy, executive director of Cargill, in a statement.

As with any improvements to educational processes, continued teamwork among all parties involved will be vital for the success of the program.
