Federal grant delivers iPads to elementary classrooms

Students line up for technology in FlordiaA school district in Collier County, Florida, is now testing a pilot program that is designed to integrate iPads into education. According to RSWFlorida, the experimental trials are testing several ways mobile devices could potentially be used by students.

The iPad's touchscreen, experts say, may be particularly useful to developmentally challenged schoolchildren who need extra help in school. Due to this fact, one of the Collier school district's pilots is studying how the iPad and its learning aids may allow for special needs children to be placed in a classroom with their peers.

"It provides an equal playing field for all children," Bill Schulte, the special education technology specialist for Collier Schools, told the news source.

Applications software uploaded to the tablet may give these students the edge they need to progress on schedule with the rest of their class. However, technological implements can be used to the benefit of the whole class, and teachers looking to use these aids may want to purchase a high-tech whiteboard, a new computer or a classroom projector.

Technological implements not only enhance the learning processes of students, they can also make the teacher's job easier.

John Mundorf, and fifth-grade teacher in the Collier school system, told the news source, "We always say it would be really nice if a teacher could sit next to a student for the whole entire day. That's not reasonable, but with technology I can do that."
