The Montville Education Foundation and Cedar Hill Home and School recently awarded Cedar Hill Elementary in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, $12,075 to invest in iPads for fifth-grade students, NorthJersey.com reports.
According to the report, the school plans to purchase 25 iPad 2 devices, which were introduced by Apple last month. Teachers told the news provider that the devices will provide more of a hands-on educational approach for students.
Many educators have found technology in the classroom is a useful way to keep students engaged in lessons. For example, a teacher may use a media tablet, a laptop or an HDMI projector to create a learning environment in which students are more inclined to participate.
Cedar Hill Home and School co-president Michelle Zuckerman told the news provider that although the iPads will initially be given to fifth graders, the school eventually plans to expand the program to other grades as well.
Other areas of the country are looking to get Apple's tablets in the hands of student as well. The school district committee in Auburn, Maine, recently approved a measure to provide iPad 2 devices to kindergarten students, TMCnet reports.
