With multi-year grant, Indiana foundation looks to improve educational technology

The Rising Sun Regional Foundation recently awarded the Ripley County Community Foundation in southeast Indiana a multi-year grant to improve local students' educational experience through the use of technology.
Though the RCCF didn't specify the amount of the grant, it did state that the money would support its Ripley County Technology Consortium, a program established last spring to help local schools address and prioritize technology needs and curriculum.
One project that will be funded by the grant is the establishment of Collaborative Innovation Centers, which include interactive media centers where students can access valuable resources and educators can collaborate with one another.
In many cases, the implementation of technology in the classroom has proven to be beneficial to students and educators. For example, teachers may use a classroom computer, smartboard or
DLP projector to create an interactive learning environment that engages students more effectively than textbooks and chalkboards.
Elsewhere in Indiana, Columbia Elementary School in Rochester recently received a $200,000 grant from the state's Department of Education to invest in new technology, including iPads and laptops.
