Pennsylvania middle school uses grant to enhance technology, art education

Quaker Valley School District will use $250,000 to build an art corridor in its new middle school. The Pennsylvania Department of Education recently awarded Quaker Valley School District $250,000 to remodel a former administration space into a brand new arts corridor, the Sewickley Herald reports.

Quaker Valley superintendent Joseph Clapper told the news provider that the new arts corridor would incorporate new technology to help enhance students' artistic experiences. The corridor will include equipment for music, technical and visual arts, he said.

"We're really looking to expand and enhance the arts and technology for middle school students, both during the day and after school," Clapper said.

Many schools use state grants to invest in new classroom technology, such as computers, media tablets and HDMI projectors. Educators have found technology can often play a vital role in a student's education and provides new resources to enhance the learning experience.

According to the report, the new corridor is part of a $23 million project to completely overhaul the administrative space with a new cafeteria, gymnasium and classrooms for a new middle school. The project is expected to begin this summer and will likely continue into the 2011-2012 school year.
