Recently, the St. Croix Central Elementary and Middle School in Roberts, Wisconsin, received a grant to further the music education of its students.
The St. Croix Valley Foundation Music Education Grant, worth more than $4,000, has allowed the school and its music teacher, Michelle Schmitt, to purchase new instruments for interactive learning.
“With the grant, I hired the [rock and roll group] Whitesidewalls to perform at our school and bought four electric guitars, two bass guitars, amps, a drum set, as well as the accessories that go with these instruments," said Schmitt. "I already had a few keyboards and acoustic guitars in use at my school."
The new instruments will augment and advance the school's Middle School Rocks unit, which covers 1950s music.
Similar to St. Croix's grant, many other schools nationwide have also received funds to further education. Many of these institutions have implemented new technology, including computers, interactive whiteboards and HDMI projectors for better visual learning.
The U.S. Department of Education has recently issued a number of these grants across many states, including Ohio and Kentucky.
