In an effort to boost college completion, the Community College of the District of Columbia recently announced it has received a $750,000 grant to invest in new technology.
According to the college, it was selected from a field of 50 finalists to receive the Next Generation Learning Challenges Grant, which awards institutions using technology to increase college completion rates, particularly among low-income young adults.
The CCDC said it will partner with several other educational institutions to establish developmental courses aimed at supporting students across a number of learning environments. The grant will also allow the CCDC to help high school students prepare for college by supporting skills in reading, writing and math.
Many educational institutions rely on technology as a means of bolstering student achievement in the classroom. For example, educators may use a computer, a document camera or a
DLP projector to create an environment that caters to interactive learning and provides students with opportunities to experience tools they will once again see in their future careers.
According to a CCDC press release, New Generation Learning Challenges has awarded grants totaling $11 million to 29 organizations.
