Davenport University in Livonia, Michigan, recently announced it will award several grants to local nonprofits to help improve technology, the Observer & Eccentric reports.
According to the report, the university's School of Technology will provide up to three nonprofits with a total of $4,500 as part of its Pay It Forward Initiative, which is designed to promote good citizenship and philanthropy among students.
There are six nonprofits participating in the Pay It Forward Initiative, and the school will announce the recipients of the grants on Saturday, the news provider stated. Potential grant recipients include the Bloomfield Townhouse Cooperative, Redford Interfaith Relief, the Livonia Optimist Club, Starfish Family Services, the Livonia Save Our Youth Task Force and the Livonia Community Opportunity Center.
Many nonprofits use technology to further the opportunities of those they serve. For example, an organization may invest in a computer, a smartboard or an HDMI projector to provide new tools that enable members to take part in interactive activities and meetings.
According to the news provider, Davenport University School of Technology students also participated in 15 service hours with each of the nonprofits, which will help them determine the grant recipients.
