
Northeastern Junior/Senior High School in Fountain City, Indiana, recently announced it will give iPads or laptops to each of its 550 students, thanks to a grant from the state's Department of Education, Pal-Item.com reports.
The grant, totaling $200,000, will enable the school to move away from traditional textbooks to 21st century educational technology. According to the news provider, Northeastern principal Dennis Metzger wants to provide the technology to every seventh- through 12th-grade student.
Additionally, the school plans to provide professional development to its educator to help them understand the technology and teach them ways to use the devices in the classroom more effectively.
Many schools around the country are utilizing technology to expand their educational resources. For example, an educator may use a computer, an iPad or an HDMI projector in the classroom to help engage students and encourage more participation in lectures.
According to the news provider, Northeastern was one of 22 Indiana schools selected to received the technology grant. Open to all public schools in the state, 135 schools and corporations applied for the grant.
