Recently, Columbia Elementary School in Rochester, Indiana, received a grant that the institution has used to upgrade its technology.
The $200,000 grant was issued to the school from the state's Department of Education as part of the classroom innovation program it has been running.
With the new funds, the elementary school purchased several new pieces of equipment to further teaching and learning methods. Among the new items implemented were iPads and MacBook Pro laptops. All students in the school's second-grade class will receive the tablet computers, while teachers in the second and third grades will receive the laptops.
Many schools have conducted similar purchases with new funds. In addition to iPads and computers, these schools often adopt interactive whiteboards, learning games and HDMI projectors.
The Rochester-based school will also begin conducting training classes for parents for the iPads in order for them to assist their children at night.
Recently, the state of Ohio was awarded $40 million in education grants for similar purposes.
