Massachusetts schools finding funding for new technology
April 5, 2011

Keeping with district policies, many schools in Massachusetts are trying to replace old computers every five years.Despite looming budget cuts, many schools in Massachusetts are pushing forward and investing in new technology for the classroom, the MetroWest Daily News reports.

According to the report, schools in Natick, Milford, Framingham and other towns are making an effort to find funding wherever available to ensure their students receive a 21st century education.

Both Natick and Framingham plan to invest millions in new technology in the next few years - keeping in line with district policies to replace old computers every five years. According to the report, Natick will use a portion of the high school's contingency fund to purchase laptops for every high school and eighth-grade student. Meanwhile, Framingham will request $500,000 from the town to provide teachers with laptops and classroom projectors.

Many teachers believe technology is important to the student's educational development. For example, a teacher may use a laptop, interactive whiteboard or DLP projector to create a learning environment that fosters student engagement.

One Massachusetts town that recognizes the importance of educational technology is Marlborough. The Marlborough Education Foundation recently awarded more than $12,000 in grants to fund educational innovation in the classroom.
