Despite a smaller budget than in previous years, the Branchburg Board of Education is finding ways to ensure it can upgrade technology and introduce classrooms to the 21st century, the Messenger-Gazette reports.
According to the report, the board recently approved a $39.4 million budget for the 2011-2012 school year - $1.2 million less than the district's budget for the current school year. However, the board took into account several factors that will enable it to reduce expenditure next year, including the closing of one school and the introduction of a bus sharing program.
Technology has proven to be a valuable asset in many classroom. Many teachers have found they can use technology, such as a computer, an interactive whiteboard or an HDMI projector, to create a learning environment that encourages student involvement and stimulates an interest to learn.
In addition to technology upgrades, the budget also leaves room for a courtesy bus program, additional support for students with disabilities and a new math lab for fourth- and fifth-grade students, according to the news provider.
