Verizon Wireless' charitable wing, the Verizon Foundation, recently announced it is offering $50,000 in grants to help bring public schools in Miami-Dade County, Florida, into the 21st century with new technology.
The grants, which will be distributed to evenly to 10 schools, will be used to integrate the foundation's Thinkinfinity.org, an online education resource designed to improve student achievement in science, technology, engineering and math studies.
"Thinkfinity.org is a wonderful tool that educators across the state are using to help our children maximize their educational experience and become strong academic achievers," said Verizon southeast region president Michelle Robinson.
Educators have found they can use technology in the classroom to increase participation and give students resources to expand their educational experience. For example, schools can use a classroom computer, a tablet PC or an HDMI projector to encourage student engagement and boost achievement.
According to a company press release, the Verizon Foundation has awarded $120,000 to support educational programs in south Florida since 2008.
