Lindale Independent School District in Lindale, Texas, recently announced the Lindale ISD Education Foundation has awarded 44 local teachers with grants totaling more than $36,000 to spur innovative projects in the classroom.
The school district said this is the most money ever provided by the foundation. The nonprofit foundation accumulated the funds through donations from local businesses and corporations, as well as individuals. The teachers were then presented the grants, along with a bundle of blue and white balloons and noisemakers, by the foundation's Grant Patrol.
Several of the grant recipients will use the money to fund projects for new technology in the classroom. Educators have found they can use technology, such as a classroom computer, a tablet PC or an HDMI projector, to expand students' learning resources and encourage engagement in lectures.
"With so much talk of the state’s budget shortfall and cuts in educational programs, we are here to say that we can help our teachers provide the best possible tools to give their students the exemplary education Lindale is known for," said the foundations executive director Maya Bethany. "It is why we exist."
This was the third round of grants provided by the Lindale ISD Foundation in three years. In total, the foundation has awarded $58,336 in grants, according to the Lindale ISD website.
