A new study by Cisco found the vast majority of educators believe the presence of technology in the classroom can greatly affect a student's learning development and a teacher's ability to educate.
In a survey of 500 education administrators and IT decision-makers from 15 countries, 85 percent of respondents said technology plays a significant role in how students learn. Additionally, 83 percent indicated that knowledge of technology is needed to prepare students for future careers and give them the ability to compete in a global economy.
One benefit of having technology in the classroom is that it encourages student participation, the report stated. Many educators will use a computer in conjunction with an HDTV, an interactive whiteboard or a classroom projector in the classroom to promote collaboration and engagement.
"I am gratified to see that new technologies, such as collaboration and video, are globally increasing in importance in education, as they can open the door to a world of opportunities for students, regardless of socio-economic status or geographical location," said Cisco U.S. public sector director of education Renee Patton.
Many schools in the United States rely on federal funding and other grants to enhance classroom technology. This year, the U.S. government has awarded billions of dollars to schools across the country to achieve this goal.
