
In an effort to enhance learning in the classroom, utilities provider SRP is encouraging Arizona teachers to apply for grants though its Classroom Conntections, the White Mountain Independent recently reported.
According to the report, the utilities company will award up to $180,000 to provide funding for a wide range of educational initiatives in the areas of math, science, social studies and technology.
SRP is currently offering two grants. The Learning Grants provide up to $5,000 per school to fund innovative math and science programs. Meanwhile, the Social Studies Grants, award up to $2,000 to enhance learning programs in history, geography, government, economics and civics disciplines, according to the news provider.
Many teachers will use the grants to purchase new technology for the classroom, such as an interactive whiteboard, computer or HDMI projector.
Public, private and nonprofit schools are eligible to receive the grants.
SRP has awarded $125,000 in grants so far in the 2010-2011 school year. According to the company, 27 Arizona schools have benefited from its grant program.
