Currently, the Complete College America, a national nonprofit focused on increasing the number of Americans with college degrees, is offering $1 million grants to governors.
The organization, which is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation, will award the grant to any governor who proposes the most innovative and inventive methods for boosting their state’s college completion rates.
CCA’s goal with this program is to encourage state leaders to enact real change and lasting impact by taking on big ideas.
According to CCA’s data, more than 60 percent of all new jobs within 10 years will require a college education. Currently, Massachusetts boasts the highest percentage - 53 percent - of young adults, ages 25 through 34, with a college degree. Connecticut and Iowa are second with 46 percent.
Many schools recently receiving education grants have upgraded their technology, incorporating smartboards, high-tech computers and HDMI projectors into their classrooms. Like the CCA, companies, such as MetLife and JPMorgan Chase, have also donated funds to further educational methods.
