In his latest proposed budget, Minnesota governor Mark Dayton included two education grant programs that will recognize schools showcasing innovation and achievement.
One program will highlight schools whose students make exceptional academic progress and then pay those schools to instruct other teachers on how to do the same.
The other program will grant $100,000 to schools that create innovative ways to shrink the academic achievement gap between white students and racial minorities.
In all the state’s grant program will award nearly $17 million during the next two years, a figure Education Department spokeswoman Charlene Briner feels it is comfortable, yet rewarding.
Typically, schools receiving such grants nationwide have begun investing in better teacher salaries, landscaping renovations and even classroom projectors.
Due to greater funding, especially from the government’s 2009, $100-billion investment into the public school system, nearly 8,100 educators in Pennsylvania were able to keep their jobs. In addition to the government, major companies, such as MetLife, Lowe’s and Wells Fargo, have awarded grants to schools across the country.
