
Recently, Qwest awarded grants to teachers in schools across South Dakota, totaling $25,000.
The teachers plan to use their new funds to upgrade technology in their classrooms, presenting new methods for relaying lesson plans. The investments, such as smartboards, high-tech computers or HDMI projectors, will make the classroom more up to date with current technologies.
One teacher plans to purchase a dozen iPod touches for her classroom, which features applications designed to help children interact and read better.
"A lot of the students I work with have a very difficult time reading," said Charlene Bentaas, a special education teacher at the Garfield Elementary School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Five of the 10 teachers receiving the grants are located in the Sioux Falls district. Other teachers have mentioned purchasing iPads, music software and digital cameras.
Qwest is the latest company to aid nationwide schools with grants for better education. Recently, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Lowe’s and MetLife have all awarded various grant amounts to schools across the country.
