As part of its nationwide program to further education in schools, Lowe’s announced recently it has awarded the Cameron Park Elementary School in Hillsborough, North Carolina, with a $5,000 grant.
The school has significant historical value, existing since the 18th century and housing learning centers for foreign students. The school’s surrounding park areas provide students with ample space to conduct experiments and further learning through a hands-on approach. However, the condition of these grounds and lack of outdoor classroom space has become problematic, which is why the $5,000 grant holds so much significance.
The school will renovate the nearby algae-filled pond to allow students to conduct water-monitoring projects and will institute further green learning.
“[The grant is] awesome,” said the Parent-Teacher Governance Organization’s chair, Neil Jones. “For me, it’s all about community and helping kids learn.”
Lowe’s has awarded similar grants to several other schools, who have invested in technology, such as smartboards, computers and classroom projectors.
Other than Lowe’s, MetLife, Wells Fargo and various state Departments of Education have also awarded grants to further education.
