Grant allows Maine town to further breast cancer education
February 15, 2011

A program awarded grants to a Maine-based organization to promote breast cancer education.Recently, the Avon Breast Health Outreach Program awarded the Healthy Community Coalition, located in Farmington, Maine, a $55,000 grant to spread breast cancer awareness and education.

The coalition runs a breast health program currently, but, with the grant, it will expand its teaching capabilities, helping others detect the earliest signs of the disease.

“We are proud that the Avon Foundation for Women shares our mission and has chosen to support our program,” said Jennifer McCormack, the HCC’s program coordinator. “With these funds we will be able to reach women throughout Greater Franklin County with education and screening services.”

The Avon Foundation has existed since 1993 and has awarded more than 1,425 grants during that period.

The HCC is just the latest in a series of organizations and institutions receiving grants to further education. These bodies have typically invested their new funds into technology, adopting smartboards, computers or HDMI projectors to educate.

MetLife, Lowe’s, Wells Fargo and various state Departments of Education have all awarded grants to these bodies during the last several months.
