On Thursday, New Jersey governor Chris Christie's administration announced the state's School Development Authority has issued two grants to the Medford Lakes school district. The grants are part of the state's Regular Operating District program and further the governor's recent commitment to providing the state's children with safe, modern and efficient schools.
Two schools in the Medford Lakes district, the Neeta and Nokomis Elementary Schools, will receive the funds, which will be used for updating the heating, ventilation and air conditioning in their computer and multi-purpose rooms, respectively. The total project cost is estimated to be nearly $50,000.
The SDA's ROD program resumed in May 2010, announced by its authority's chief executive officer, Marc Larkins. The state's Department of Education is also involved with the program, which has awarded nearly $126 million in total grants since resuming.
Normally, schools receiving grants have used the funds to upgrade their technology, implementing a smartboard, high-tech computer or HDMI projector in the classroom.
Federal officials recently awarded Ohio with a $40 million grant to further its educational methods.
