The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, which represents 32 counties in the lower section of the state, recently received a $100,000 education grant from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation. The fund is intended to help the foundation improve educational efforts, specifically involving STEMM - science, technology, engineering, math and medicine.
JPMorgan Chase is part of a corporate partnership with the regional foundation that encourages investments to expand educational opportunities and regional philanthropy efforts.
"The JPMorgan Chase Foundation exemplifies the vital role businesses can play in supporting education and promoting the Appalachian Ohio region," said Cara Brook, the Appalachian group's president and CEO. "This is a significant first investment in FAO and its partners to create a 10-year STEMM investment strategy to advance the educational and economic development goals of Appalachian Ohio."
Many schools receiving grants to improve technology in their classrooms have integrated a smartboard, high-tech computer or HDMI projector.
In addition to the JPMorgan Chase Foundation, several other major businesses have also contributed funds to further education. MetLife, Lowe's and Wells Fargo have recently issued grants to schools nationwide.
