Dyersburg State Community College in Dyersburg, Tennessee, will use a $343,580 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to invest in new distance learning technology that will benefit area high schools, WMC-TV.com recently reported.
To encourage students to take advantage of the college's dual-enrollment programs, the college will provide video conferencing technology to four local high schools, as well as three DSCC locations.
Educators have found they can use video conferencing technology in conjunction with an HD-TV, LED monitor or HDMI projector to introduce a 21st century educational experience and provide students with resources to take their learning beyond the four rooms of the classroom.
According to the news provider, 630 high school students participated in dual-enrollment classes with the college last fall.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has distributed millions of dollars in grants in recent months to promote distance learning across the country. Jackson Community College in Jackson, Tennessee, also received funding from the department, the college recently announced.
