
Recently, an independent nonprofit community organization located in Marlborough, Massachusetts, awarded nine of the town's schools more than $12,000 in grants. The funds are intended to further educational innovation in the classroom.
The organization, known as the Marlborough Education Foundation, awarded the funds to the following schools - the Early Childhood Center, the Jaworek Elementary School, the Kane Elementary School, the Richer Elementary School, the Jaworek, Richer and Whitcomb schools for younger children, the Whitcomb School and Marlborough High School.
During its 14-year existence, MEF has granted nearly $122,000 to schools to further education. These grants are raised by donations from individuals, families, organizations and businesses located in the greater Marlborough area.
Recently, schools receiving grants have devoted the funds to upgrading technology. Now, more classrooms are featuring a smartboard, high-tech computer or HDMI projector.
Needham, Massachusetts, a nearby town, also has its own education foundation, which will complete its grant application process in March. In addition, several schools in South Carolina also received grants to further their teaching methods recently.
