Recently, the Crenshaw Charter School of Gaffney, South Carolina, which has yet to open, received an additional $103,000 grant to further the school's resources once students begin attending.
The school is Cherokee County's first public charter school and is one of only four community groups to win the grant handed out by the South Carolina Department of Education.
Crenshaw's officials are more than pleased with the education board's selection of their school, as their opening in August moves closer.
"It would have been really hard to start without that grant money, but it wouldn't have been impossible," said Carron Dunton, Crenshaw's founder, GoUpstate.com reports.
While this grant is intended to be used for training teachers, developing curriculum and community marketing, other schools receiving grants have upgraded their technology. Adoption of smartboards, computers and classroom projectors has seen a recent increase as a result.
In addition to the Crenshaw Charter School, 14 other schools in South Carolina recently received grants to further education as a result of Lowe's generosity.
