February 8, 2011

Schools in Ardmore, Oklahoma, are investing in new technology to bring classrooms into the 21st century.Schools in Ardmore, Oklahoma, are using the latest educational technology to bring their classrooms into the 21st century and provide students with access to new learning tools, the Daily Ardmoreite recently reported.

According to the news provider, several schools in the area have purchased new interactive whiteboards to enhance the learning experience for students.

An interactive whiteboard connects a computer loaded with special software, a large screen and an overhead projector to let students and teachers interact with the board through touch detection. The boards can be used to display content from the computer's visual output, including presentations, slide shows, videos and more.

"That’s just the way that people learn nowadays," said Dickson Public Schools technology coordinator Sherri Jones. "We’re just bombarded by media and color in our everyday lives. And the fact that we can now adapt the way we teach, of course, is just going to improve their capability of learning and their desire to learn, as well."

Technology has become an important tool for teachers across Oklahoma and around the world. The Edmond Public Schools Foundation, also in Oklahoma, recently awarded local schools $76,000 to purchase new technology, including document cameras, calculators and interactive whiteboards, the Edmond Sun reports.
