As part of its "Toolbox for Education" program, Lowe's recently awarded 14 schools in South Carolina with education grants worth up to $5,000. Lowe's chose these schools, which are part of the 480 receiving grants nationwide, because of their parent-initiated school improvement projects that benefit K-12 public education across the country.
“Through Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant program, we are acknowledging parent-initiated efforts that enhance the lives of children in the communities we serve," said Larry Stone, chairman of Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation. "By supporting schools in South Carolina, we are rallying behind a cause that is important to both our customers and employees, and we're helping to build a stronger foundation for the children who will be tomorrow's employees, homeowners and community leaders."
To date, the Toolbox for Education program has awarded nearly $25 million in grants, affecting nearly 3 million students, since its inception six years ago. Recently, schools receiving grants have focused their funds on upgrading technology, incorporating smartboards, high-speed computers, classroom projectors and other equipment. In fact, Ohio received a $400 million education grant this week for such upgrades.
