Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation recently awarded West Hempstead High School in New York a $4,475 grant, which the school will use to purchase new computers for its Related Arts department, the Long Island Herald reports.
According to the Long Island Herald, department director Julia Healy decided to purchase two new MacBook Pro laptops, because the brand is particularly popular with artists. Healy said the she would use the computers, software and painting programs to enhance the learning experience in her classroom.
One way art teachers can achieve this goal is by connecting a laptop to an HD-TV, LED monitor or
DLP projector. This allows them to display a student's artwork in high definition, enabling them to focus on the details and offer constructive advice.
The Lowe's Charitable and Education Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the home improvement chain Lowe's. According to the foundation's website, public schools are eligible to receive between $2,000 and $5,000 from the program.
