The Qwest Foundation recently announced it has awarded $50,000 to the Albuquerque Public Schools Foundation in New Mexico to support educators who use technology to improve the learning and teaching experience in the classroom.
Eleven educators across the region benefited from the grant, including elementary, middle and high school teachers, as well as one resource teacher at the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center.
The use of technology in the classroom has proven beneficial to both students and teachers. While students are excited by the prospect of using a laptop or a tablet computer in the classroom, teachers have found they can utilize an interactive whiteboard, a document camera or an HDMI projector to create a learning environment that keeps students engaged in the lesson.
"This year we were able to award 11 teachers who not only will be using technology in innovative ways with their students but these teachers will also provide opportunities for their colleagues to improve their skills in using technology in the classroom as proposed in their grants," said APS chief information officer Tom Ryan.
The Qwest Foundation also announced it has awarded $25,000 to Innovate+Educate, an organization that works with the private industry to promote 21st century skills in the classroom.
