Southwest Middle School in San Diego, California, recently put its portion of a $1 million district-wide grant to good use when it purchased laptops for every seventh-grade student to use in the classroom, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
As part of the Enhancing Education Through Technology program funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the school reportedly purchased 300 Dell Latitude 2110 laptops.
According to school officials, the laptops are intended to provide students with an enhanced educational experience by integrating interactive technology in their day-to-day lives.
Educators have found they can use interactive technology, such as laptops or tablet computers, in conjunction with an HD-TV, LED monitor or high-definition
DLP projector to introduce new and innovative teaching techniques in the classroom.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, next year's seventh grade students will receive the same gift.
According to the California Department of Education, the federal government has awarded more than $36 million throughout the state as part of the Enhancing Education Through Technology program.
