Zavalla Independent School District in Angelina County, Texas, recently used a hefty grant from Region 7 Education Services Center to provide its seventh- and eighth-grade students with Apple iPod Touches and MacBooks, the Lufkin Daily News reports.
The competitive grant was awarded with the goal of providing both students and teachers with access to multimedia technology that would enable them to enhance the educational experience.
According to the Lufkin Daily News, the school purchased a total of 11 MacBooks and 90 iPods.
The iPods enable students to read books, create podcasts and take notes. Meanwhile, the MacBooks can be used in conjunction with an HD-TV, LED monitor or HDMI projector, giving teachers the ability to conduct lessons that are interactive and engaging for the students.
"We are upping the ante in the classroom," said Zavalla superintendent David Flowers. "This allows teachers to captivate ‘Generation Next’ in the classroom."
Region 7 Education Service Center helps schools in the region development and implement innovative educational programs, including the introduction of new technology in the classroom. According to Zavalla ISD technology director Gary Mitchell, Zavalla was the smallest school to receive the grant from Region 7.
