The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation recently announced its education technology program, Next Generation Learning Challenges, will release its next round of grants to promote the use and development educational technology.
The grant will provide up to $10 million of investment capital to educators, entrepreneurs, technologists and institutions to spur the development of innovative technology that helps students master literacy and math skills.
The foundation recognizes the important role technology can play in the classroom. For example, educators have found they can use a computer, an interactive whiteboard or a
DLP projector to enhance the learning experience for students and nurture their educational growth.
"We support innovators who want to harness the power of technology to help more young people get into and through college, ready to succeed in the workplace," said Next Generation Learning Challenges executive director Ira Fuchs. "We must accelerate the use of learning tools that hold tremendous promise to help meet this challenge."
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced the first wave of grants from the newly formed Next Generation Learning Challenges program last October. The first round of grants totaled $20 million for technology designed to improve college readiness.
