The Boys & Girls Club of Van Buren, Arkansas, is set to receive $10,000 from the Best Buy Children's Foundation to support the use of technology within the organization, the City Wire reports.
As part of the Teens and Technology Innovation program, the club will invest in technology designed to retain and attract teenagers to the program.
The news provider cites a study by MGS Consulting, which found participation in organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of America increases teen engagement in healthy behavior and decreases the likelihood they'll participate in destructive or risky activities.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Club Tech program promotes youth learning through technology. For example, clubs can use equipment, such as a laptop computer or iPad, in conjunction with an HD-TV, LED monitor or
DLP projector to reach multiple teenagers at once and provide them with skills they will need in the future.
"It’s because of partners like the Best Buy Children’s Foundation that we are able to offer technology programming that encourages a passion for education, innovation and future success," said Boys & Girls Club of Van Buren chief professional officer Cindy Faldon.
The Boys & Girls Club of Van Buren was one of six clubs to receive the Teens and Technology Innovation grant from Best Buy.
