Hundreds of classrooms at St. Mary's County Public School District in Maryland are currently using interactive whiteboards to enhance students' learning experience, and more are expected to be installed by the end of the year, Southern Maryland Newspapers recently reported.
According to the news provider, the interactive whiteboards allow teachers to introduce a new element to their educational resources. The boards, which look similar to a dry erase board but are used in conjunction with a computer and an overhead projector, provide hands-on learning for the students.
Students can use the boards to draw or write, watch video or take quizzes. The teachers can then provide instant feedback on students' progress and determine in which areas they are succeeding or struggling.
"These are fabulous teaching tools for the teachers and the students because they're interactive," said Jill Mills, Esperanza Middle School principal. "It really holds their attention."
According to the news provider, the school district currently uses interactive whiteboards in approximately 380 of its elementary, middle and high school classrooms. But eventually, several of the schools hope to install the equipment in every classroom.
