Philanthropic organization Houston Endowment recently awarded Houston Baptist University in Texas $1.5 million to upgrade information technology and communications systems, FortBendNow.com reports.
According to the news provider, the grant will allow the university to implement several technological upgrades recommended by a civil engineering infrastructure study, including new state-of-the-art computer networks and communications systems.
Educators from all levels have found maintaining current technology in the classroom can greatly enhance the learning experience of students. For example, teachers can use a classroom computer in conjunction with an interactive whiteboard, LED monitor or HDMI projector to create a learning environment that promotes student participation and provides access to technology they will need in the future.
"Houston Endowment has been one of the greatest resources possible for Houston and Houstonians for more than seven decades," said HBU president Robert Sloan. "This grant will make a great difference in our ability to serve our students and improve the quality of their learning experience."
This is the second grant Houston Endowment has awarded the university in two years. In 2008, the organizations awarded $639,976 to fund the civil engineering study that recommended the technology upgrades.
