Telecommunications provider Optimum Lightpath recently announced it has awarded 10 New Jersey schools with $10,000 each to invest in new technology for the classroom as part of its first Transforming Education with Technology program.
According to Optimum Lightpath, more than 160 public and private schools applied for the program, ranging from elementary to secondary schools. The 10 winners were announced at the New Jersey Education Technology Conference in Somerset.
Grants were awarded based on a set of criteria, which included the school's plans to use technology to improve instruction, promote distance learning and create new initiatives.
Many schools that have purchased new technology, such as laptops or netbooks, have also invested in an HD-TV, LED monitor or
DLP projector for classrooms to enhance its effects. By connecting a laptop to a projector, educators can create an interactive learning environment that can reach more students at one time.
Promoting classroom participation among students can be a difficult task for many teachers. But many forward-thinking educators have found they can encourage interactive learning through cutting-edge technology.
