
Officials at Granada Middle School in Whittier, California, have called on local citizens to help it win a national contest sponsored by Pepsi that will allow it to purchase new technology for the classroom, Whittier Daily News reports.
For its Pepsi Refresh Project, the soft drink company is giving away a total of $1.3 million to schools, research foundations and other organizations each month to fund innovative ideas, such as cancer research, green initiatives and school technology projects. Organizations are eligible win prizes ranging from $5,000 to $250,000, depending on how many votes are received on Pepsi's website.
According to Whittier Daily News, Granada Middle School is asking students, parents and others to sending text messages to Pepsi, so it can win the grand prize of $250,000 prize, with which it plans to purchase new computers and interactive whiteboards, as well as fitness equipment.
Educators have found technology, such as classroom computers, can be used in conjunction with an interactive whiteboard, HD-TV or HDMI projector to creative a learning environment that encourages student participation and fuels high performance.
So far, grand prize winners have included the Eicosanoid Research Foundation to sponsor a cancer research conference and helloCHANGE for a tobacco prevention campaign.
