Best Buy awards tech grants to 15 Canadian schools
December 17, 2010

Best Buy Canada has awarded 15 schools $20,000 each to invest in new technology.Consumer electronics retailer Best Buy Canada recently announced it has awarded a total of $250,000 in technology grants to 15 schools throughout the country.

Through the Best in Class Fund, 15 schools will receive $20,000 and an additional five schools will receive $10,000 to invest in new technology for the classroom and develop education-focused projects and programs.

Many educational institutions have used grants and other funds to improve the quality of technology in the classroom. For example, schools can use the combination of a laptop connected to an HD-TV, LED monitor or DLP projector to create a hands-on learning experience designed to encourage student participation.

"In order for Canadian schools to remain competitive and best facilitate student education, Canada needs programs like the Best in Class Fund to help us engage and teach today's tech-savvy youth," said Michele Jacobsen, who has researched the performance of technology in the classroom.

Best Buy will also provide ongoing tech support to the top 10 winners through its Geek Squad.
