A Spanish teacher in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, is using an experimental videoconferencing technique to broaden her resources and teach one class in two places simultaneously.
According to a recent Courier-Journal report, Angie Foster's fourth period Spanish 1 course consists of 18 students from Bullitt Central High School and 18 students from Bullitt Lick Middle School, located nearly three miles away.
In order to further the middle school students with the education and provide them with the opportunity to get ahead before entering high school, Foster and Bullitt Lick instruction tutor Mary Carpenter connect their classes via videoconferencing technology.
In addition to connecting classrooms across districts, videoconferencing can also be used to move reach students across borders and create a global learning environment. Educators can enhance their videoconferencing displays by connecting their equipment to an HD-TV, LED monitor or HDMI projector.
Academic institutions across the country are implementing videoconferencing to enhance their the education experience. The technology provides students with additional resources, with which they can "visit" museums or attend performances right from their classrooms.
