Wolf Branch Middle School in Swansea, Illinois, was recently awarded a brand new computer lab, courtesy of a sweepstakes sponsored by Discovery Education and CDW Government.
Seventh-grade teacher Erin Wright, who entered the school in the Win a Wireless Lab Sweepstakes, told the Belleville News-Democrat the new technology will be a welcomed replacement of the old three to four computers operating in each classroom.
With a value of more than $45,000, the new classroom features 20 notebook computers, an interactive whiteboard and a classroom projector to display video.
Educators have found using interactive technology, such as a notebook computer or interactive whiteboard, in conjunction with an HD-TV, LED monitor or
DLP projector can create a learning environment that encourages student participation.
Additionally the school received 20 student response devices, a printer, a document camera, a digital camcorder, a printer, a storage cart and a $5,000 digital media grant from Discovery education.
Other grand prize winners of the sweepstakes included Lee-Davis High School in Mechanicsville, Virginia, and Wayland-Cohocton Central School in Wayland, New York.
