Telecommunications provider U.S. Cellular recently awarded 10 teachers in Blount County, Tennessee, with a total of nearly $12,000 to fund projects and purchase new equipment for the classroom, Blount Today reports.
For its Calling all Teachers campaign, U.S. Cellular has partnered with the online philanthropic organization DonorsChoose.org to provide $1 million in grants to fund projects across the country.
According to Blount Today, teachers in the county will use the funding to purchase an array of technology, including new calculators, portable sounds systems and an overhead projector for several classrooms.
"The multimedia projector that Calling All Teachers has funded for my classroom will enable me to enhance my lessons and activities on a daily basis for years to come,” Sharon Trahan, a teacher at Heritage Middle School in Maryville, told Blount Today. “The 100 or more students that I teach each day, now and in the future, will benefit greatly by U.S. Cellular’s kindness and generosity."
According to Blount Today, the Calling All Teachers campaign has provided almost $55,000 in funding to more than 90 teachers in East Tennessee.
