An inner-city school in New Westminster, British Columbia, is looking to boost student education and its reputation by implementing interactive smartboards in each of its classrooms.
The parent advisory council at John Robson Elementary School and other New Westminster schools are currently looking for funding to purchase the new technology so they can have one in every classroom when the new Robson Middle School opens in three years, New Westminster News Leader reports.
"It would show John Robson, which usually is associated as an inner city lower income school, in a positive light," said Isabel Downey, secretary for the Robson PAC. "It might also encourage other local businesses to donate and get involved with purchasing smartboards for our local schools."
An smartboard is a touch sensitive whiteboard that is used in conjunction with a computer and a classroom projector. According to the New Westminster News Leader, Robson elementary currently has two smartboards and has the funds to purchase a third.
The district already has the computers it requires but will need to purchase more classroom projectors, the New Westminster News Leader reports.
