The Santa Ynez Valley Academic Booster Club Plus recently rolled out an initiative to provide classrooms with materials they may not otherwise be able to afford, the Lompoc Record reports.
The booster club, known as ABC+, provides support for the Santa Yvez Valley Union High School District in California. As part of the initiative, teachers tell the club what they need, and ABC+ then solicits donations from members of the community.
According to the Lompoc Record, requests can range from pencils and tissues to technology, including calculators, digital voice recorders and document cameras, so teachers can display papers through a classroom projector.
"I have been wanting to get this done for two years, since my child started the high school, and other schools have something similar," said ABC+ member and initiative coordinator Debi Gioia. "After [Principal Mark] Swanitz came along, he said to move forward, and we are excited to get the wish list out for the community to see."
One way to enhance students' education is by providing them access to interactive technology, such as a laptop computer, a tablet PC or a classroom projector, which can encourage class participation.
