The Marion School District 7 in South Carolina was recently honored by the SC EdTech 2010 conference for its effort to promote educational technology in the classroom, SCNow reports.
The school district was recognized for its "Laptop for Everyone" initiative, which began in 2007 to provide students the technological skills they will need in the future. According to SCNow, the district wanted students to have access to a computer at all times even if they don't have one at home.
Creek Bridge High School was specifically recognized for commitment to improving the reading and writing skills of its students through technology. The school's At-Risk Student Innovation Supplemental Grant Program provides intense technology training for ninth grade English and language arts students, as well as professional development for teachers, SCNow reports.
Many schools are emphasizing technology, such as laptop computers and smartboards, in conjunction with an HD-TV, an LCD monitor or an HDMI projector, to offer students an interactive learning environment. By integrating these items in the classroom, students become more familiar with new educational tools.
SC EdTech is an annual conference represented by educational institutions, telecommunications firms and state government agencies, and promotes innovative technology in the classroom.
