A new initiative to provide high school and middle school students with laptop computers is having significant impact in the classrooms of the Tupelo Public School District in Tupelo, Mississippi, the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports.
The school district handed out Apple MacBooks to every student in grades six through 12 at the start of the fall semester to provide an additional learning resource both in and out of the classroom. According to the Daily Journal, students can be found with their computers at restaurants, bus stops and around town.
Students are able to use their computers to access information on the internet, as well as take notes during lectures.
Teachers are also able to take advantage of the new technology. They can provide digital copies of notes to students to cover more material quickly, the Daily Journal stated, or they can connect a computer to an HD-TV, LCD monitor or a classroom projector to create an interactive environment that fosters student participation.
Additionally, educators in the Tupelo Public School District are teaching students how to care for expensive technology and providing them with hands-on experience with tools they will need in the future.
