Students at West Madison Elementary in Madison, Alabama, recently ran more than 800 miles and raised more than $19,000, which will be invested in new classroom technology, the Madison County Record reports.
Parent Teacher Association President Shannon Enfinger told the Record the money raised would enable the school to purchase an additional Next Classroom technology package, which includes an interactive whiteboard, a document camera, an amplification system and a classroom projector.
Enfinger said the elementary school has purchased one Next Classroom set for the last several years, but five classrooms - one first grade and four kindergarten - are still lacking the technology. The school's principal would also like to install the equipment in the library as well, she said.
Schools across the country are investing in new equipment to help engage students. Educators have found technology, such as an interactive whiteboard, a digital camera or a
DLP projectors, can help students become more involved in class lessons and spark an excitement to learn.
According to the Record, the PTA plans to hold the fundraiser event again next year.
